Does incognito mode stop fingerprinting?
Mostly no. Private browsing is designed to keep your history off your own device — not to hide your device from the websites you visit.
See what your browser reveals
Our free scanner shows every signal your browser exposes and how unique your fingerprint is. No account, nothing stored.
Scan my browser freeWhat incognito mode does
It starts a fresh session with no cookies, doesn't save history or form data, and throws everything away when you close the window. That stops cookie-based tracking between sessions.
What it doesn't change
Your screen size, graphics card, fonts, timezone, language, CPU cores and canvas rendering are identical in a private window. Your IP address is the same too. A site can recognize you across normal and private windows from the fingerprint alone.
What to do instead
Use a browser with real fingerprinting protection and keep default settings — see how to block browser fingerprinting. Try it yourself: run our scanner in a normal window and then a private one, and compare the fingerprint hash.
